Amazon Announces $48 Billion India Investment by 2030, Expands AI, Cloud and Logistics Network

Amazon said its long-term investment strategy aims to generate substantial economic benefits for India by 2030

Quick Summary

  • Amazon will invest a total of $48 billion in India by 2030, including a fresh $13 billion commitment and over $21 billion dedicated to AI and cloud infrastructure.

  • By 2030, Amazon aims to support 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in e-commerce exports, bring AI tools to 15 million small businesses, and reach 4 million government school students.

  • Amazon joins Microsoft and Google in ramping up AI investments in India.

Amazon has announced an additional $13 billion investment in India by 2030, taking its total planned investment in the country to $48 billion over the next five years. The announcement was made after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday.

The latest investment will primarily strengthen Amazon Web Services (AWS) by expanding artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure across its Mumbai and Hyderabad data center regions.

Sharing the update on X, Andy Jassy said Amazon plans to invest more than $21 billion specifically in AI and cloud infrastructure as India rapidly emerges as one of the world's fastest-growing digital economies.

AI and Cloud Become Amazon's Biggest Priority in India

A significant portion of the new funding will be used to expand AWS data center capacity, helping businesses, startups and government organizations access faster cloud computing and AI services.

Amazon's latest commitment reflects the growing global race among major technology companies to establish AI infrastructure in India, where demand for cloud computing and generative AI continues to accelerate.

The company said the investment will support innovation across industries while strengthening India's digital infrastructure.

Amazon to Expand Warehouses and Delivery Network

Alongside AI investments, Amazon plans to rapidly expand its logistics operations across the country.

The company announced it will open:

  • More than 20 new fulfillment centers

  • Over 100 new delivery stations across India during this year

The expansion is expected to improve delivery speeds, increase storage capacity and strengthen Amazon's growing quick-commerce ambitions.

Earlier this week, Amazon also revealed plans to significantly expand the reach of its Amazon Now same-day delivery service into more Indian cities and towns.

Millions of Jobs and Small Businesses Expected to Benefit

Amazon said its long-term investment strategy aims to generate substantial economic benefits for India by 2030.

The company expects to:

  • Support 3.8 million jobs

  • Enable $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports

  • Bring AI capabilities to 15 million small businesses

  • Introduce AI learning opportunities to 4 million government school students

These initiatives are intended to strengthen India's digital economy while helping businesses adopt advanced technologies.

India Emerges as Global AI Investment Hub

Amazon's announcement comes as global technology companies continue increasing investments in India's AI ecosystem.

Microsoft has pledged approximately $17.5 billion for AI and cloud infrastructure, while Google has committed around $15 billion over the next five years to expand AI data centers and digital infrastructure.

The growing investments highlight India's importance as a strategic market for cloud computing, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Amazon Faces Strong Competition in India

Despite its massive investment plans, Amazon continues to face intense competition in India's e-commerce market.

Walmart-owned Flipkart remains one of its biggest rivals, while quick-commerce companies such as Blinkit continue to dominate the rapidly growing instant-delivery segment.

Amazon is now increasing investments in logistics, fulfillment centers and AI-powered services to strengthen its competitive position and capture future growth opportunities.

Outlook

With cumulative investments now expected to exceed $48 billion by 2030, Amazon is making one of its largest long-term commitments outside the United States. The company's expanding AI infrastructure, cloud services and logistics network are expected to play an important role in India's digital economy while creating jobs, supporting businesses and accelerating technology adoption across the country.
