MoSPI launches GoIStats Mobile App

On the occasion of Statistics Day 2025, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), through its National Sample Survey Office (NSO), launched the GoIStats mobile application—a major stride towards enhancing data accessibility and promoting citizen-centric statistical dissemination in India. This innovative initiative marks a significant milestone in the country's ongoing commitment to creating a transparent, accessible, and user-friendly digital data ecosystem.

The GoIStats mobile application embodies NSO’s vision of fostering a comprehensive and inclusive digital platform where stakeholders—including policymakers, researchers, students, and the general public—can seamlessly access official statistics on the go. Designed with mobility and accessibility in mind, the app serves as an extension of NSO’s digital bouquet, complementing its existing website and data portals.

At the heart of the application lies an intuitive "Key Trends" dashboard, which presents dynamic visualizations of critical socio-economic indicators such as GDP (Gross Domestic Product), inflation, and employment statistics. These indicators are essential measures of a country’s economic health and are now presented in an engaging, interactive format that enhances user understanding.

A standout feature of GoIStats is the “Products” section, offering direct access to NSO’s extensive database. Here, users can effortlessly download data in CSV (Comma-Separated Values) format—a widely used file type that enables easy analysis and integration into various data tools. The app is equipped with advanced filtering and search capabilities, ensuring users can locate specific datasets with ease. It also includes comprehensive metadata—information that describes the content, quality, and structure of data—allowing for informed usage and interpretation.

To further simplify complex data for broader audiences, the application incorporates visual data storytelling through a dedicated infographics section. This feature translates intricate statistics into easily digestible visuals, accompanied by contextual explanations that help users grasp the relevance of each chart or graph. Features such as interactive charts, social sharing tools, and source attributions bolster transparency and promote widespread data literacy—the ability to understand and use data effectively.

The app also hosts a comprehensive publication section, offering instant access to NSO reports and documents. Users can download these publications directly from their mobile devices, ensuring uninterrupted access to the latest statistical releases. To keep users informed, the application sends regular updates in line with NSO’s publication calendar, complemented by push notifications for timely alerts.

Designed for continuous enhancement, the GoIStats app includes a feedback mechanism that encourages users to suggest improvements. It also features a user-friendly interface and a "Contact Us" section, enabling direct communication with NSO for queries or support. At present, the Android version of the app is available free of charge on the Google Play Store, while the iOS version is scheduled for release shortly.
