A Pakistani court on Saturday sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years of imprisonment each in connection with the Toshakhana-II corruption case, which involves alleged misuse and sale of state gifts.

The verdict was pronounced by Special Court Judge Shahrukh Arjumand inside Rawalpindi’s high-security Adiala Jail, where both accused are currently lodged. According to the judgment, the former prime minister and his wife were awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 409 of the Pakistan Penal Code, along with an additional seven years under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In addition to the prison terms, the court imposed a fine of 1.64 crore Pakistani rupees on each of the convicts.

The case, filed in July 2024, pertains to allegations that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi unlawfully sold valuable state gifts—including luxury watches and diamond and gold jewellery sets—which they had received from the Saudi government in 2021. As per the prosecution, these items were disposed of without being deposited in the official state gift repository, known as the Toshakhana.

Although Bushra Bibi was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court in October 2024, followed by Imran Khan receiving bail a month later, both were formally indicted in December 2024. The trial proceedings continued within Adiala Jail, as the couple was already incarcerated following their conviction earlier this year in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi retain the right to challenge the verdict before the High Court, and legal experts expect appeals to be filed in the coming days.
