PM Modi's Two-Nation Visit to UK and Maldives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-nation official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) and the Maldives from 23rd to 26th July.

In the first leg of the tour, Prime Minister Modi will visit the UK from 23rd to 24th July, at the invitation of his British counterpart, Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During this leg, he is scheduled to hold wide-ranging discussions with PM Starmer, covering the entire gamut of India-UK bilateral relations. These talks are expected to encompass crucial areas such as trade and economy, technology and innovation, defence and security, climate change, healthcare, education, and people-to-people ties.

The leaders will also exchange views on issues of regional and global importance, addressing challenges and opportunities that affect not just the two countries but also the broader international community.

A key highlight of the visit will be a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and His Majesty King Charles III, underlining the significance of India-UK ties at the highest ceremonial level.

Furthermore, the two sides will review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP), a high-level framework that outlines long-term cooperation across multiple sectors. CSPs are formal diplomatic arrangements aimed at deepening collaboration between countries beyond traditional diplomacy—focusing instead on strategic alignment in defense, economics, and global policy. This will be Prime Minister Modi’s fourth visit to the UK, reflecting the ongoing commitment to nurturing a robust partnership with Britain.

In the second leg of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will travel to the Maldives from 25th to 26th July, at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. The visit carries symbolic and strategic importance, as Mr. Modi will be the ‘Guest of Honour’ at the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Independence of Maldives—a significant milestone in the island nation's history since gaining independence from British protection in 1965.

During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will meet President Muizzu for bilateral talks focusing on issues of mutual interest. The two leaders will review the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership. This partnership aims to enhance economic cooperation and ensure regional stability in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) through shared maritime security efforts. Maritime security involves safeguarding international waters against threats such as piracy, illegal fishing, smuggling, and regional conflicts.

This visit will also provide an opportunity for both countries to take stock of the progress made under the joint vision and further strengthen the close bilateral relationship—especially in the backdrop of changing geopolitical dynamics in South Asia.

Notably, this will be Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to the Maldives.
