UP and Bihar Top Transgender Student Enrolment: India Records Six-Fold Rise
India has witnessed a remarkable six-fold increase in transgender student enrolment in schools between 2021–22 and 2023–24, with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar accounting for over 60% of the total. While the progress reflects growing acceptance and effective outreach, regional disparities still persist. Higher education is also seeing a steady rise in transgender representation, as per the latest AISHE data.
