Anurag Kashyap Calls The Kerala Story 2 ‘Propaganda’, Slams Viral Beef Scene: “Aise to Log Khichdi bhi Nahi Khilate”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has ignited fresh controversy after calling The Kerala Story 2 “propaganda” while reacting to a viral scene from the film’s trailer. The sequel, which is scheduled to release in theatres on February 27, has already drawn attention for its sensitive subject matter and legal challenges.

Here’s what Kashyap said — and how the makers responded.

Why Anurag Kashyap Called The Kerala Story 2 “Propaganda”

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Filmfare Awards South in Kochi, Kashyap did not mince words when asked about the recently released trailer of The Kerala Story 2.

He described the trailer as “bullsh*t” and termed the film “propaganda,” alleging that such projects aim to divide audiences for commercial gain.

According to Kashyap, the storytelling in the trailer appeared exaggerated and sensationalised.

Viral Beef Scene Triggers Debate

One of the most talked-about moments from the trailer shows a Hindu girl allegedly being forced to eat beef while held captive. The scene quickly went viral across social media platforms.

Reacting to it, Kashyap remarked:

“Aisa beef kaun khilata hai? Aisa koi khichdi bhi nahi khilata hai.”(Who feeds someone beef like that? No one feeds even khichdi in that manner.)

His comment intensified the online debate, with supporters and critics weighing in.

During the same interaction, Kashyap also said he enjoys “beef parotta,” dismissing the idea that eating beef should be controversial.

Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh Responds

The film’s director, Kamakhya Narayan Singh, responded sharply to Kashyap’s remarks.

He defended the film, claiming every scene is based on documented incidents and offering to share research materials with critics.

Singh stated that the sequel expands beyond Kerala and addresses what he describes as a larger pattern of manipulative conversions across different Indian states.

Producer Vipul Shah previously clarified that the film is not targeting Kerala as a state but aims to expose what the makers call an “evil” affecting society.

Legal Trouble Before Release

The controversy has now reached the courts. A writ petition challenging the film’s certification has been filed, and the Kerala High Court has indicated that it will view the film before delivering its decision.

Despite the legal scrutiny, the makers maintain that they are presenting “the truth” and claim they have not faced direct threats so far.

Social Media Divided

Kashyap’s reaction has sparked mixed responses online.

  • Some users supported his stance, saying they would not watch the film.

  • Others defended the first installment, calling it a blockbuster because audiences believed it reflected real events.

  • Several users questioned the timing and awareness of the sequel’s release.

The debate mirrors the intense discussions that surrounded the original The Kerala Story upon its release.
