Prime Minister Narendra Modi today welcomed the African Union's participation in the Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) 2025, marking a significant step toward enhanced global cooperation in disaster resilience.
Delivering his address via video message at the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) 2025, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of creating actionable programmes to build resilience against disasters, especially for developing countries. He emphasized the critical need to ensure equitable access to financing so that all nations—particularly those with limited resources—can invest in resilient infrastructure.
Special Focus on Small Island Developing States
The Prime Minister also called for a reframing of perspectives on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), proposing that they be viewed as large ocean countries due to their unique vulnerabilities to climate change and disasters. He stressed that these nations deserve special attention in global disaster resilience planning.
Underscoring the importance of early warning systems and effective coordination, PM Modi noted that these tools are vital for timely decision-making and last-mile communication, especially in disaster-prone areas. He expressed hope that the discussions at the CDRI 2025 conference would explore these aspects in detail.
France Hosts CDRI for the First Time
The Prime Minister extended his gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron for supporting the initiative. Notably, this is the first time the CDRI Conference is being held in France, underscoring growing international engagement in building disaster-resilient infrastructure.
