In a significant move aimed at enhancing the transparency and security of recruitment, the Government of India has authorised the use of Aadhaar authentication for candidate verification in examinations conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). This authorisation was formally announced through a notification issued by the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance.

Under this new provision, IBPS is permitted to voluntarily use Aadhaar-based authentication during its recruitment and examination processes. Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identity number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), enables biometric and demographic verification of individuals, ensuring accurate identification. The use of this authentication method is expected to significantly reduce impersonation and curb malpractices, such as candidates appearing fraudulently on behalf of others.

The Ministry of Finance emphasized that this initiative not only aims to secure the recruitment process but also aligns with the broader objectives of good governance. Good governance refers to the effective, transparent, and accountable administration of public resources and institutions. By integrating Aadhaar authentication, the IBPS recruitment framework is set to become more robust, reliable, and tamper-proof.

Ultimately, this development is poised to strengthen the integrity of the recruitment ecosystem across the Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector, which relies heavily on fair and merit-based selection processes. The move reflects the government's ongoing commitment to leveraging technology for enhancing institutional credibility and ensuring that opportunities reach the most deserving candidates.
