Indian archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam made history by becoming the first Indian woman compound archer to win a medal at the Archery World Cup Final, securing a bronze medal in Nanjing, China.
In a thrilling bronze-medal match, Jyothi defeated second seed Ella Gibson of Great Britain 150–145, shooting a perfect 15 tens across five ends — a flawless display of focus and consistency that earned her global recognition.
The Asian Games champion started her campaign with a 143–140 win over Alexis Ruiz of the USA in the quarterfinals. She then faced world number one Andrea Becerra of Mexico in the semifinals, narrowly losing 143–145 in a closely fought match.
However, Jyothi showed remarkable composure and determination to bounce back in the bronze-medal match, clinching India’s first-ever women’s compound medal at the season-ending Archery World Cup Final.
Another Indian archer, Madhura Dhamangaonkar, also competed in the women’s compound event but made an early exit after a 142–145 loss to Mexico’s Mariana Bernal in the first round.
