World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen clinched his seventh Norway Chess Tournament title in Stavanger, reinforcing his dominance in the international chess arena. The five-time World Champion secured victory in the 2025 edition after a tense final round that saw American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana defeat India’s D. Gukesh, earning three critical points. Carlsen, facing a tough position against another Indian prodigy, Arjun Erigaisi, managed to hold a draw, which was enough to finish the tournament with 16 points. Caruana closely followed with 15.5 points, while Gukesh secured third place with 14.5 points, matching his performance from the 2023 edition. Arjun Erigaisi ended fifth in the six-player field, finishing behind Hikaru Nakamura (USA) but ahead of Wei Yi (China), who placed last. In the women’s category, Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine claimed the championship title, with China’s Lei Tingjie taking second and India’s Koneru Humpy finishing third. The 2025 Norway Chess Tournament once again highlighted the elite competition in both men's and women’s formats and showcased the continued rise of Indian players on the global stage.
