India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra delivered a stunning performance at the Paris Diamond League 2025, clinching the men’s javelin throw title with a best effort of 88.16 meters. The event was held last night at Stade Sébastien Charléty, and Chopra secured the top spot with his first throw of the competition, which ultimately remained unbeaten throughout the event.
Germany’s Julian Weber, a two-time Olympic medalist and one of Chopra’s closest rivals, came in second with a strong throw of 87.88 meters, while Luiz Maurício da Silva of Brazil took third place, setting a new South American record with a throw of 86.62 meters. Chopra, 27, followed up his opening throw with an 85.10-meter effort on his second attempt, but fouled the next three throws before concluding with a final attempt of 82.89 meters.
This victory holds added significance for Neeraj as it marks the first time this season that he has outperformed Julian Weber. In the Doha Diamond League last month, Weber had edged out Chopra with a personal best of 91.06 meters, achieved with his final throw of the night. Although Chopra finished second in that meet, he made headlines by breaching the much-anticipated 90-meter barrier with a throw of 90.23 meters, setting a new Indian national record.
The Diamond League is an annual series of elite track and field competitions, and Chopra’s win in Paris reaffirms his position among the world’s top javelin throwers. His consistency and ability to bounce back after setbacks demonstrate not only his technical excellence but also his mental resilience—key traits that define champions in field athletics.
