Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that the Russia–India Long-Term Cooperation Plan, extending till 2030, is expected to be finalised soon, signaling a deepening of strategic and economic ties between the two nations. This announcement came during his address at the plenary session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025, where he emphasized that Moscow is actively progressing on long-term economic cooperation frameworks with key international partners, with India being a central focus.
SPIEF, often regarded as Russia’s premier platform for global economic dialogue, held its 2025 edition under the theme “Shared Values: The Foundation of Growth in a Multipolar World.” The theme reflects the current global shift toward a multipolar world—a concept referring to a global order not dominated by a single superpower but rather shared among several influential nations. However, President Putin dismissed claims that Russia and China are jointly attempting to engineer this multipolar order, stating instead that such developments are the natural outcome of evolving global dynamics.
India’s participation at SPIEF 2025 underscored its active role in shaping the future of international cooperation and innovation. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, represented India at the forum, delivering keynote addresses at two high-profile sessions. During his speeches, Mr. Vaishnaw highlighted India’s rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing the country’s commitment to building a technological future that is not only innovative but also ethical and inclusive. His remarks reflected India’s broader digital vision and its growing leadership in the global tech ecosystem.
The prospective Russia–India cooperation plan through 2030 is expected to cover various sectors, likely including energy, defense, trade, high-tech collaboration, and digital infrastructure—areas where both countries have maintained strong ties in recent years. The finalisation of this plan would mark a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations, especially amid evolving global alliances and shifting economic centers of power.
