Bihar’s Shailesh Kumar creates history in Men’s High Jump T63/42 category, receives ₹75 lakh reward from CM Nitish Kumar under State Sports Award Scheme.

Bihar's pride, Shailesh Kumar, has scripted history on the global stage by winning a gold medal in the Men’s High Jump T63/42 category at the World Para Athletics Championships 2025.
The T63/42 classification in para-athletics refers to athletes with lower limb impairments. Specifically, T63 is designated for athletes with a single above-knee amputation who compete using prosthetics, while T42 includes athletes with similar physical impairments. Competing at this elite level, Shailesh's gold-medal jump stood out as a symbol of both skill and resilience.
Reacting to the landmark achievement, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar congratulated Shailesh and praised his contribution to India's sporting legacy.
"This victory is a moment of pride not only for Bihar but for every Indian," the Chief Minister said in a public statement.
In recognition of Shailesh Kumar’s record-breaking gold medal, the Bihar government has announced a cash reward of ₹75 lakh along with a citation under the State Sports Award Scheme. This scheme is part of the state's broader initiative to encourage sporting excellence and support athletes representing India at international competitions.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar further emphasized that Shailesh’s triumph is a direct reflection of the positive transformation taking place in Bihar’s sports ecosystem, where emerging talent is being nurtured and given the platform to shine globally.
