Spinner Deepti Sharma moves to second spot in ICC Women’s T20 ranking

Indian spinner Deepti Sharma is on the cusp of achieving a career milestone by potentially becoming the number one bowler in the ICC Women’s T20 International (T20I) rankings for the first time. In the latest rankings update, Deepti has climbed one position to reach second place, surpassing Australian fast bowler Annabel Sutherland and now trailing only Pakistan’s Sadia Iqbal by a narrow margin of eight rating points. Deepti’s rise in the rankings was propelled by her impressive performance in the third match of India’s ongoing five-match T20I series against England, where she took three wickets.

Over the past six years, Deepti has consistently remained among the top 10 bowlers in women’s T20I cricket, showcasing remarkable consistency. Despite this, the 27-year-old has yet to secure the top spot—something she is now very close to achieving. (For context, T20 International is a fast-paced format of cricket where each team plays a maximum of 20 overs, making bowling rankings highly competitive and reflective of a player's current form.)
