At the National One District One Product (ODOP) 2024 Award Ceremony held in New Delhi, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, announced that the government will soon issue new guidelines to promote first-time exporters and open up new markets under the ambitious ODOP initiative. Emphasising the importance of local entrepreneurship, the Minister said that the Commerce Ministry will actively collaborate with district administrations to help take indigenous products to international markets, thereby supporting the government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
What is ODOP?
The One District One Product (ODOP) initiative aims to identify, promote, and brand unique products from each of India’s districts. These span sectors such as agriculture, food processing, handloom, handicrafts, and more. As of 2024, over 1,200 unique products have been identified from more than 750 districts across India. The initiative fosters value addition, local employment, and integration of district-level products with global supply chains.
Highlights from the Event
During the award ceremony, Shri Goyal noted that 773 districts have actively contributed to India's growth story, stating,
"India is like an oasis in a desert in a tumultuous world and is the fastest-growing large economy today."
He predicted that India would become the third-largest economy by 2027, attributing this progress to collective efforts by states, citizens, and leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
To support market expansion, the Ministry will soon release new guidelines focusing on new exporters, new products, and new global markets. Shri Goyal encouraged every district to take pride in its heritage and products, highlighting examples like Wayanad’s coffee, Ratnagiri mangoes, and Pulwama’s saffron, as symbols of India’s rich diversity.
ODOP Integration and Support
Shri Goyal shared that 64 out of 87 ODOP products are now covered under the Industrial Investment Promotion Policy, ensuring better access to government schemes. Notably, all 38 districts of Bihar have achieved 100% ODOP coverage, and the state has been categorized under Category A, for its full integration of ODOP into its industrial and economic policy.
He also referenced the "Panch Pran", the five commitments announced by PM Modi during the Amrit Kaal (2022–2047)—a vision period for making India a developed nation. These include goals such as strengthening the economy, fostering unity, and protecting national sovereignty.
National and International Expansion
ODOP’s reach is growing both domestically and internationally. The government has approved PM Ekta Malls in 27 states, which will serve as dedicated retail and experience hubs to promote not only the state’s own products but also those from other regions. These malls will showcase GI-tagged products (goods identified with a specific geographical location known for their quality), handlooms, and crafts.
On the international front, ODOP Walls have been set up in cities like Singapore, New York, Vancouver, Milan, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Japan. Products are now available at well-known international retail outlets like Mustafa Centre and Centre Point Mall in Singapore. Over 15 Indian Missions abroad have promoted ODOP through exhibitions, roadshows, and gifting campaigns to enhance global visibility.
Skilling, Branding, and Digital Integration
To ensure that ODOP products meet global standards, Shri Goyal emphasised the importance of branding, quality, and packaging. He stressed that ODOP products must be sustainable, and recognised globally for high quality. A Best Practices Compendium was launched to guide stakeholders on successful promotion models.
In collaboration with institutions like NID (National Institute of Design) and IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), targeted skilling and training programs are being delivered for artisans and producers, enhancing grassroots capabilities. Several States and Union Territories have established dedicated ODOP Cells, and more than 15 of them have launched e-commerce platforms to increase product accessibility. ODOP products are also listed on Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and other major online platforms.
Further enriching the public outreach, the PM Gati Shakti–ODOP Experiential Centre has been set up at Bharat Mandapam. This centre provides an immersive storytelling experience using Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), RFID mapping, and audiovisual elements, bringing alive the journey of India’s local products.

The event marked the second edition of the National ODOP Awards, organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). These awards recognize outstanding contributions from States and Union Territories, Districts, and Indian Missions Abroad.
A total of 34 awards were conferred across these three categories. The 2024 edition received 641 applications via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal, including 587 entries from districts, 31 from States/UTs, and 23 from Indian Missions abroad.
