Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹5,900 crore in Siwan, Bihar, via video conferencing, as part of the government’s ongoing commitment to holistic development across key infrastructure sectors. These projects span urban development, sewage treatment, housing under PM Awas Yojana, railways, and the power sector.
Among the major announcements, the Prime Minister dedicated the newly constructed Vaishali–Deoria railway line, connecting Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, built at a cost of over ₹400 crore. He also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express train service between Patliputra (Bihar) and Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh)—a move set to enhance high-speed rail connectivity and commuter convenience in the region.
Reinforcing the Make in India – Make for the World initiative, Prime Minister Modi also flagged off the first export consignment of a state-of-the-art locomotive built at the Marhowra (मढ़ौरा) Rail Plant in Bihar for export to the Republic of Guinea, a West African country. This marks a significant milestone in reviving Bihar’s industrial base and boosting India’s export potential in advanced rail technology.
In alignment with the Namami Gange mission—a flagship initiative for the cleaning and rejuvenation of the Ganga River—the Prime Minister dedicated six new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) worth over ₹1,800 crore. These plants will ensure that wastewater from surrounding areas is treated before entering the Ganga, significantly contributing to environmental conservation and public health.
Further supporting water infrastructure, Mr. Modi also laid the foundation stone for additional water supply, sanitation, and sewage projects across various towns in Bihar worth ₹3,000 crore, aiming to provide clean and safe drinking water to thousands of households.
In a push toward sustainable energy solutions, the Prime Minister launched the groundwork for establishing a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bihar. This system, to be installed across 15 grid substations including in Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan, will store electricity during low-demand periods and supply it during peak hours. The BESS is expected to stabilize the power grid and reduce costs for both distribution companies and consumers.
On the housing front, over 53,600 beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY–U) in Bihar received the first instalment of financial assistance. Additionally, the Grih Pravesh (housewarming) Ceremony was marked by handing over keys to some of the 6,600 recently completed houses, symbolizing progress toward the goal of “Housing for All.”
Addressing a massive public gathering in Siwan, the Prime Minister took the opportunity to highlight the transformation of Bihar under the NDA government. In a sharp critique of opposition parties, Mr. Modi accused RJD and Congress of turning Bihar into a "symbol of migration" during their tenure. He asserted that it is the NDA that has restored development momentum, ensuring job creation, infrastructure, and connectivity in the state.
He noted that youth today have only heard about the misgovernance of the past, without witnessing the actual challenges of those times. “Our government is committed to changing the narrative of Bihar from backwardness to a key driver of India's growth,” he emphasized.
Highlighting India's rising global stature, Mr. Modi remarked that the world now views India as a leading economic force, on track to becoming the third-largest economic superpower. He asserted that Bihar is poised to play a significant role in this journey, given its growing infrastructure, human capital, and strategic location.
Later in the evening, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where he will chair the State-level function commemorating the completion of one year of the current state government. There, he will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over ₹18,000 crore, further showcasing the Centre’s continued focus on inclusive development across states.
